Information Environment in INSTRUMENT AG - Bulgaria

Instrument AG is the biggest European branch of Plansee Tizit, Austria.

In 1996 EDA Ltd. concluded an agreement with Instrument AG for redesigning its information system and introducing the accounting system Colibri Pro.

The main goal of the project was to design and build reliable, fully functional and extensible solution on an acceptable cost, that best matches the company's information workflow.

The project had to solve the following problems:

1. Building scalable network environment, which includes:

• extention the network boundaries - connect to the network each workplace that hase an interaction with information system;
• realiability and availability increase;
• scalability.

2. Increasing server and workstation performance and reliability.

3. Extending software functionality matching company's needs.

Realization of the Project

The project is realized in 1994 and continuously extended responding to client's needs.

Network environment

• structuring and segmenting network depending on information workflow;
• smooth migrating from 10Mb Ethernet to 100Mb Ethernet;
• connecting remote departments;
• projected extensibility.

From starting of the project till 31 Dec 1999 there are more than 50 nodes in the network distributed over of 10km².

Server

IBM PC Server 330 running under NetWare 5.

The server is based on Intel Pentium processor that drives business-critical applications, supporting up to 333MHz Pentium II with 512KB of integrated Level 2 ECC cache.

IBM PC Server 330 handles the growing application performance demands readily with two-way symmetric multiprocessing capability. Leverage up to 63.7 GB internal disk storage (54.6GB hot-swapable) including RAID capability.

NetWare 5 is the best platform for this solution as high performance and reliable OS for file and print services, Intranet and Internet ready.

Workstations

IBM PC 300GL

These IBM PC 300GL models feature Intel Celeron processors up to 333MHz, Intel 440LX or 440BX core chipset, Cirrus Logic GD5465 AGP baseline graphics (2MB) or S3 Trio3D AGP 1 graphics (2MB), NP SDRAM 66MHz or 100MHz main memory and ATA-33 disk drives - together with an IBM design optimised to deliver performance with maximum affordability.

Application Software

Colibri Pro was implemented as accounting and management software.
