Information Environment in PLEVEN BREWERY - Bulgaria

Pleven Beer is The biggest Bulgarian brewery of Interbrew, Belgium.

In 1996 EDA Ltd. concluded an agreement with Pleven Beer for designing its information system and for introducing Colibri Pro.

The main goal of the project was to design and build reliable, fully functional and extensible solution on an acceptable cost, that best matches the company's information workflow.

The project had to solve the following problems:

1. Building reliable and scalable network environment.

2. Increasimg server and workstation performance and reliability.

3. Extending software functionality matching company's needs.

Realization of the Project

The project is realized in 1995 and continuously extended responding to client's needs.

Network environment

• structuring and segmenting network depending on information workflow;
• connecting remote departments via different media depending of speed/cost;
• projected extensibility.

From starting of the project to 01 Jan 2000 there are more than 20 nodes in the network distributed over of 4km².

Server

IBM Netfinity 3000 running under NetWare 5.

The server is based on Intel Pentium II processor that drives business-critical applications, supporting up to 450MHz with 100MHz front-side bus each with 512KB L2 ECC cache and fast SCSI subsystems.

NetWare 5 is the best platform for this solution as high performance and reliable OS for file and print services, Intranet and Internet ready.

Internet Server

HP NetServer 5/100 LC Model 2100 running under RedHat Linux.

Workstations

Mixed IBM PC compatible Pentium based workstations.

Application Software

Colibri Pro was implemented as accounting and management software.
