IBM Advanced Connectivity System (IBM ACS) Bronze Line Installed in Offices of Customs and Taxations in Bulgaria

The project is realized in 1999.

Introduction

The IBM Advanced Connectivity System (IBM ACS) is a high tech cabling solution providing protocol independent cabling infrastructure, flexibility for use and easy expandability.

IBM arranged the products in their cabling system into four families since year 2000:

  • Gold: Category 7 solutions/Class F (draft);
  • Silver: Category 6 solutions/Class E (draft);
  • Bronze: Category 5 solutions/Class D;
  • Crystal: Fiber Optic Solutions.

Each family has a different level of performance and all products in the family exceed the performance requirements of the ISO/IEC, CENELEC and TIA/EIA standards relevant to that family.

The problems that we have solved when we made any cabling system are:

  • Designing the topology of the cabling system;
  • Preparing the cable traces (installing the plastic duct if the cable should be placed in a duct);
  • Installing the floor and building distributors - rack enclosures;
  • Installing and crimping the patch panels in racks;
  • Installing and crimping the information outlets;
  • Testing and certification;
  • Preparing the documentation.

Topology of the System

We have installed a horizontal subsystem on every floor depending on the architecture of the building. All connections for every floor start from an equipment rack containing patch panels, patch cables and the active LAN equipment (hubs).

The cabling system consists of 783 workplaces in 32 buildings. Each workplace has one double outlet that supplies:

  • one phone connection and one LAN connection;
  • or two LAN connections;
  • or two phone connections.

Wiring Closet

We have installed a horizontal subsystem on every floor depending on the architecture of the building. All connections for every floor start from an equipment rack containing patch panels, patch cables and the active LAN equipment (hubs). Racks are produced from RITTAL ELECTRONICS - Germany, with dimensions 6U, 12U, 15U, 18U (wall mount) and 24U, 33U, 42U.

Cable Traces

The cable traces are implemented with cable ducts. We have used plastic ducts from LEGRAND - France, with dimensions from (12.5x20)mm to (160x65)mm. The cable traces start from the wiring closet and end to each data/phone outlet.

Cables

We have used an installation cable (between the wiring closet and the outlets) of type IBM P/N 58G6861, FTP (foiled twisted pair), 4 pairs, category 5, halogen-free version. This cable is certified for frequencies up to 100 MHz and is produced from IBM.

For connecting the hubs and the workstations to the cabling system we have used patch cables type FTP, 4 pairs, category 5, flexible, halogen-free, version 1, 2 or 3 m.

Outlets

We have used 783 outlets "on the wall" version - IBM TDL80, white. All of them have been placed in 32 buildings.
